Please read the information and guidance below before commencing this process.

There are three pre-conditions to being a mentor in Na Fianna.  You must attend one of the Safeguarding session run several times a year in the club – to be advised about the next session – join this WhatsApp group or ask the lead mentor.

You must also attend the foundation training course run by our Coaching and Development office – Mark Cooper – email: Mark.cooper.gpo.dublin@gaa.ie

Being Garda Vetted is a precondition for helping out with any U18s team or activity in Na Fianna.  This includes minor teams – it is a legal requirement.  Before you help out, you must be Garda Vetted.  The steps are as follows.

1. Set up an account on www.foireann.ie – you may already have one

2. Print off and fill out the NVB1 form (there are printed copies in the clubhouse) forms available above.

3. Arrange to meet one of the Children’s Officer team and they will verify your application face-to-face (The NVB1 form in the club house has the ID Validation form on the reverse).

Bring an official photo ID and a proof of address to this meeting (mobile phone bills are not allowed – please refer to vetting section of GAA website)

The NVB1 form must be signed in the presence of the Childrens Officer (CO).

The CO will fill out the ID Validation form and retain the original of both forms (they will secure them and shred them after 6 months in line with GDPR requirements)

4. You will need to take a photo of the following

  • NVB1
  • ID Validation
  • Photo ID
  • Proof of address

5. For young people aged 16 & 17 there is an additional requirement for Parental consent – this can be done using the NVB3 form.

6. Submit your application through the vetting section on Foireann.  The Children’s Officer team member can guide you through the process at the meeting.

7. You will then receive an email from the Gardaí asking for your previous addresses  – you must respond within 30 days or your application will be cancelled.

At any stage in the process contact your Children’s Officer team below for help and guidance!
